I am really excited that you have taken time out of your busy schedule to visit my website. After 20 years in the real estate industry, including 17 years in China, I returned to North America in 2010 to pursue my Masters of Divinity degree. I have subsequently carried on in my studies and I am now pursuing my PhD (ABD) in ethics. In particular, my current research focus is on business ethics and the purpose of companies. I have been blessed to pursue both of these degrees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
One of the reasons I left China was that the 2008 Financial Crisis really hurt my business. It is difficult when you are in the process of building up a business and the carpet is pulled out from under your feet. Especially when it isn’t because of what you did, but because the whole economy has been dragged down as a result of some bad decisions by a small group of people halfway around the world. The Financial Crisis took down a lot of good and growing businesses who either had to shutter their doors or had their business drastically cut back. Unfortunately, some of those companies were my clients and when their businesses were hurt so was mine.
Although I have always had an interest in this area, the events of 2008 and subsequent, have lead me on a mission to seriously consider the purpose of business, companies, and even our own lives. I became a Christian in 2006 and this was the first step of the journey. Knowing Jesus has given me a new life and has answered many of my questions about purpose, but I still have so many more. It is a long and continuous journey and a mission that I do not expect to complete within my lifetime, but one that I intend to pursue nonetheless.
Thank you again for joining me here at my website. I hope it is a fruitful experience.
