I have had the honor and privilege of living in the United States for a couple of years now. Yesterday was July 4, a celebration of America’s independence. As part of the festivities, people were lighting off fireworks. For a country known for doing things big, it was in fact, quite … quaint, I am sorry to say. Below is a short video I shot from my balcony (actually, I put the camera out there and scurried back inside) in Shanghai on Chinese New Year, 2010.

You should note that this was only my neighbourhood, but the same thing was going on throughout the city (~20 million people). Enjoy … and oh yeah, those fireworks that looked very close were in fact exploding outside my window.
